RM 1804 |
RM 1804 spent nearly 35 years working for London Transport and its successors. It ended its days working from the Holloway garage of MTL London on routes 10 and 139. At the beginning of 1998 nearly all the Routemasters in service in London were of the longer RML type which had been refurbished and re-engined. The shorter RM type buses were mainly on routes 36, 139 and 159. New Cross garage had a large allocation of RMs for route 36 but they were being re-engined and going through a re-furbishment plan to update the saloon lighting and seat moquette. The RMs at Brixton garage, for routes 137 and 159, had all been re-engined and all but one had modern saloon lighting. So it was the 139 at Holloway that was the last route in London to be worked by a full allocation of Routemasters with AEC engines, original seat moquette and tungsten bulb saloon lighting. Also at Holloway was RML 903 which was one of only two RMLs not to have been re-furbished and re-engined, the other being RML 2760 at Upton Park. |
